The Geneye UPHO is a bead beater built for laboratories that process samples in series rather than one at a time. It grinds and homogenizes up to 64 samples in a single run, in cycles of roughly one minute, and accepts a wide range of adapters so one instrument covers several tube and plate formats.

Each sample is ground and homogenized at the same time: the closed tube is shaken at high speed with glass, ceramic or metal beads, and the beads do the mechanical work. Because every sample stays sealed in its own tube throughout, there is no cross-contamination between positions or between runs.

The UPHO has been developed for both routine samples and material that is difficult to break down: plant and animal tissue, cultured cells, bacteria and yeast. The method yields stable RNA, active proteins, full-length DNA and other cellular material, which makes it a fit for extraction workflows where the lysis step is the bottleneck rather than the analysis.
